Petra

The name Petra comes from the Greek word "πέτρα" (Petra),
meaning rock; and the Arabic word is Al-Batrāʾ also meaning  rock. Petra is a historical and Archaeological city in the Jordanian governorate of Ma'an. Petra was established sometime around the 6th Century BCE, Christianity made its way to Petra around the 4th Century (see references).

"And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; And the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." (Matthew 16:18 King James Version)

We don't have to wait to experience hell. The gates of hell are all around us. The homelessness, people are starving, losing their homes, hopelessness the list goes on. We believe that we can be that rock in our community that prevents hell's gates from forcing our youth into a life of hopelessness. Schools are closing and the ones that remain have cut out extra curricular activities such as music & swimming. The schools that still have sports programs directs most of their funding toward basketball and football. So we start with teaching baseball and move to other areas and interests. We are committed to seeing that every child's life we touch has an opportunity to  be educated and have the potential to receive a scholarship toward college.  By designing Detroit after school  programs, Petra will stand between our youth and the gates of hell to ensure that they have every opportunity possible to make it and in return be inspired to become our future leaders that will continue the fight.

Yesterday is gone but it's never to late to enrich our future leaders today!
